CUSTOMER STORY
UNI Semiconductor:
Transforming Smart Factory Operations with Timeplus
UNI Semiconductor, a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing, recently expanded its operations by launching a state-of-the-art factory designed to provide outsourcing services to clients worldwide.
To achieve top-tier production efficiency and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction, UNI Semiconductor required an advanced monitoring system capable of delivering real-time insights directly to both internal factory managers and external customers.
This system was vital for ensuring that all stakeholders could access real-time data and alerts without the need for manual status updates. The primary objectives were to increase factory yield, reduce operational costs, and enhance overall profitability.
REQUIREMENTS
UNI Semiconductor identified several critical requirements for their monitoring and analytics system:
Real-time Parsing, Querying, and Alerting
The system needed to handle mask production process data in real time, ensuring that any issues could be identified and addressed immediately.
Sub-Second Query Performance
The ability to execute sub-second queries on annual production data was essential for maintaining operational efficiency.
Seamless Integration
The system had to integrate application data and production process data from the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) in real time.
Unified Data Storage
Both streaming and historical data needed to be stored within the same platform for ongoing analysis and reporting.
Downstream Data Transfer
Historical data had to be transferred to a downstream database using Clickhouse for in-depth analysis.
Automated Yield Deviation Alerts
The system needed to automatically alert managers to any deviations in yield, enabling quick corrective actions to optimize production efficiency.
During the evaluation phase, UniSemiconductor assessed various platforms, including Splunk. Ultimately, Timeplus was chosen for its outstanding performance, delivering a 60x improvement in processing speed for large streaming production data compared to other solutions.
Timeplus' SQL-based query language also made it highly accessible and straightforward to adopt. Additionally, Timeplus Connectors and its native integration with Clickhouse allowed UNI Semiconductor to seamlessly integrate it into their existing tools.
The Timeplus Solution
To address UNI Semiconductor's specific needs, the following solution was implemented:
Data Collection
Production application logs were collected via Vector and transmitted to Kafka.
Data Streaming
Kafka streamed the real-time logs directly to Timeplus.
Real-Time Processing
Timeplus processed the incoming data using predefined SQL rules, enabling real-time monitoring and alerting on any abnormalities.
Data Output
Processed results were automatically delivered to a custom Golang-based production monitoring platform, providing real-time visibility for factory managers and customers.
Data Storage
Production data was stored within the Timeplus platform, adhering to annual retention requirements and enabling comprehensive future analysis.
Downstream Integration
Historical data was sent downstream to Clickhouse for advanced analysis and reporting.
KEY TIMEPLUS CAPABILITIES
Real-Time Parsing, Computation, and Storage
Timeplus effectively managed the real-time parsing, computation, and storage of both historical and current production logs.
Automated Real-Time Results
The system automatically delivered real-time analytical results to the Golang-based front-end platform, ensuring continuous production monitoring.
High-Performance Querying
Timeplus enabled sub-second querying on large volumes of data, which was critical for maintaining and improving production yield.
"I am totally surprised by how performant Timeplus is. What used to take a minute or two for a report now takes less than a second. It gives us the visibility and real-time insights we never had."
Nancy Fan, IT Director | UNI Semiconductor
ACHIEVEMENTS AND NEXT STEPS
With Timeplus, UNI Semiconductor successfully achieved its production performance and functionality objectives, leading to a significant increase in factory yield. The platform's ability to process large volumes of data with sub-second query performance has not only reduced costs, production times, and errors but has also significantly enhanced profitability, positioning UNI Semiconductor for continued success in the highly competitive semiconductor manufacturing industry.
Looking ahead, UNI Semiconductor plans to expand the system to include real-time equipment data and advanced production quality analysis. Additionally, the company is exploring the integration of AI technology to further enhance predictive maintenance and quality control, thereby solidifying their competitive edge in the semiconductor manufacturing industry.
